2010 NORTH AMERICAN SUMMER BIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS - WRAP-UP

Alberta athletes win big at North American Summer Roller-ski Biathlon Championships!

The 2010 North American Summer Biathlon Championships took place September 11-12 in Canmore AB, with athletes attending from across Canada and the US. Marc-Andre Bedard of Quebec, a member of Canada’s Olympic Relay team, shot clean to take the gold medal in the Senior Men’s 10km Sprint, with silver going to Matt Neumann of BC and bronze to Bill Bower from Minnesota. Canmore athletes swept the Junior Men’s category with Macx Davies in first, Andrew Chisholm in second and Evan Armstrong in third.

The rain was cold and steady when the women started their 7.5km race. Claude Godbout, another member of Canada’s National team took first place with Kat Stone of U of A, Augustana and Betsey Mawdsley, coming second and third. The Junior Women’s title went to Liisa Chisholm of Calgary, with Libbi Longworth, also from Calgary second and Emma Lodge of Canmore third.

Sunday’s pursuit races went ahead in cool but dry conditions. Senior Men’s gold for a second day went to Marc Andre Bedard, with second place going to Scott Perras of the National team and third to Scott Gow of Calgary. Betsey Mawdsley took the gold in the Women’s event with second place to Zina Kocher and third to Megan Imrie both of the National Team. Medals in the Junior Men’s event went to Macx Davies, Stuart Harden of Calgary and Andrew Chisholm. Jr Womens medals were won by Libbi Longworth, Calgary, with second and third to Julia Ransom and Emma Lunder, both of BC.

This race served as a tune-up for Canada’s senior athletes. The selection trials for the first World Cup and IBU tours of the coming season will take place in Canmore September 17-19. Results will be posted daily on the Biathlon Canada website.  www.biathloncanada.ca
