Major Awards
Ruedi Setz Award - James Proudfoot, Grande Prairie
James has been involved in biathlon for many, many years, both as a competitor and key volunteer for the Wapiti Nordic Club in Grande Prairie. Recently, James served as a coach for the Zone 8 Alberta Winter Games team. His presence is appreciated at all Calforex Cup events, where his excellent shooting skills elicit fear in the other master athletes!
Alberta Biathlon Club Official of the Year - Karin Kaarsoo, Calgary
A long-time Biathlon Alberta Board member and contributor to biathlon events in Canmore and around the province, Karin has also been a key volunteer at recent IBU events held in Canmore.
Shell Canada Volunteer of the Year - Deb Hall, Calgary
Deb is the former Biathlon Director for Foothills Nordic. She has been a key volunteer at numerous events, including Calforex Cups and the Alberta Games. Deb has also served as the Zone 2 coordinator for the past two Alberta Games, and financial auditor for Biathlon Alberta.
3M Coach of the Year - Alan Ball, Edmonton Nordic
A key figure in the growth, development, and success of Edmonton Nordic's biathlon program, Alan has played an important role in the influx of new athletes to the club, and improving the performance of these athletes.
Athlete of the Year Winners
Youth Women - Danielle Vrielink, Rocky Mountain Racers
Highlights of Danielle's season included a 15th place finish and a 20th place finish at the World Youth Championships
Youth Men - Aidan Millar, Canmore Nordic
A 9th-place result, in addition to 22nd and 23rd place finishes, at the World Youth Championships were some highlights of Aidan's season. Aidan also dominated the Youth category at the Canadian National Championships, winning 3 gold medals.
Junior Women - Jessica Paterson, Edmonton Nordic
Jessica had a fine season, winning the Junior Women's Calforex Cup, and representing Canada at the 2013 FISU Games.
Junior Men - Christian Gow, Rocky Mountain Racers
Highlights of Christian's season included a 6th at the World Junior Championships, in addition to two 21st-place finishes. Christian also dominated his category at the National Championships, winning three gold medals.
Women - Rosanna Crawford, National Team
One top-10 and eight top-20 finishes on the World Cup circuit, Rosanna also achieved a top-25 finish in the Sprint and the Olympic Games, and finished the season ranked 25th on World Cup total score.
Men - Nathan Smith, National Team
Four top-10 World Cup performances and a 7th place in the Sprint at the Olympics were just some of the highlights of Nathan's 2013/14 breakout season. Nathan had two additional top-15 placings at the Olympics, and finished the season ranked 32nd on World Cup total score.
